As the south gate of Hangzhou city, Xiaoshan, on the south bank of the Qiantang River is located at the south part of most developed Yangtze River Delta. It Covers an area of 1,420 square kilometers inhabited by a population of 1.17 million. In 2nd century BC, it was originally built as a county and then upgraded into a city in 1998. In 2001, it had been elected as a new administrative district of the capital city Hangzhou. Xiaoshan's connectivity is enhanced by convenient railways and expressways running through the district as well as the nearby Shanghai and Ningbo port (180 km and 150 km respectively).

The same year the IBA - Arup team in Amsterdam developed the tower's concept design. In later stages IBA cooperated mainly with the local Chinese offices of Arup and a Local Design Institute. The tower although not fully completed yet is since 1 October 2010 open to the public.

For a long time the city-government of Guangzhou wavered to decide on the Guangzhou TV Sightseeing Tower's name. On 29 September 2010 finally came the decision. On this day it was officially announced that it was simply going to be called Canton Tower, after the city's former name.

Thus I tried to communicate with them in Mandarin. Sometimes when I met some foreigners, I also chatted with them in English. However, people in my hometown always speak local dialect.

Secondly, people in my hometown are selfish, because they only care about their own benefits. But people in Guangzhou are much more generous. They are willing to help others when people are in trouble.

Thirdly, Guangzhou is in the south of China. With Pearl River running across the city, Guangzhou enjoys a warm and wet climate. While my hometown is deep in the mountains, and the weather is so changeable. Sometimes it's as cold as winter, and sometimes it's as hot as summer in a day, which make me feel so irritated.

Besides, the food in my hometown is too hot and spicy. But Cantonese food is much lighter. It's neither too salty nor too light.

Finally, the environment in my hometown is polluted seriously, because of the tail gas emitted by private cars. And the waste gas and water from factories is also a main cause of pollution. Nevertheless, in Guangzhou, trees and flowers are planted everywhere, which can fight against the pollutants and provide us with fresh air. So the sky is fairly clean and bright. We will feel pleasant when getting around in that city. That's why I get so tired of my hometown and how much I dream of living in Guangzhou!

She had to stand next to me. I wanted to stand up and let her sit down, but I was afraid of hearing the other people say “That girl want to be praised.”

I looked around. Most people were looking out of the windows and some were sleeping. Suddenly, a little boy behind me stood up and made room for the woman. She said "Thank you very much" with a big smile. The boy smiled, too. When I told my cousin about it after that, he said "The child is the father of a man." I'm very ashamed. Why couldn’t I do the same thing as the little boy did?
